Where are Quakers in the celebration of the 2020 centennial of women voting in the United States?

We’re invisible. That’s right. This is an appeal to Quaker women in the United States and around the nation to change this.

Do Quaker women even deserve a mention during 2020 then the nation recognizes 100 years of US women voting?

It matters today. More Quaker women than ever are losing touch with their history and the legacy of democratic decision making in our communities. According to the statistics, they are not in our favor. Current predictions indicate that Quakers in the US and Canada have lost significant numbers of our membership base in the last 30 years. There are predictions that by the end of the 21st century, Quakers may be in the position of dinosaurs.

We can start by looking carefully about where we are and where we are headed. One place to begin is by reclaiming our interest in our heritage and our future. Many Quakers never heard of Alice Paul, the Quaker woman who played a pivotal role in the ratification and passage of the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution.
